First College Football Playoff Poll of the Season is Out

The path to College Football’s biggest prize takes a surprising early turn.

FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

Alabama, Clemson and Michigan are ranked 1-2-3 in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s first poll of the season.

The surprise coming at No. 4: Texas A&M is currently in the final playoff spot, with fifth-ranked Washington and No. 6 Ohio State on the outside looking in.

The Aggies are currently ranked seventh in the AP Top 25, behind both the Huskies and Buckeyes, as well as Louisville. Washington has the four-spot in the AP Poll, the Cardinals are fifth, Ohio State sixth.

The top four teams in the playoff committee’s rankings will meet in the semifinals, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

The 2017 College Football National Championship game will be played Monday, Jan. 9 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
