A new study shows employees offered free pizza accomplished more and worked harder. In David Ariely’s new book “Payoff, The Hidden Logic That Shapes Our Motivations.”
He conducted a study of workers in Israel who made computer chips. One group was promised a cash bonus for hitting a production goal, another given encouraging texts, and a third group offered free pizza. A fourth got nothing.
The study shows the pizza promise pushed productivity higher, beating out cash and compliments. So tell the boss, extra cheese.
