Biden Still Expects President Obama to Close GITMO
Vice President Biden believes the President will fulfill his pledge the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
FOX’s Jon Decker has more from the White House:
At a news conference in Sweden, Vice President Biden said he expects the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, would close before President Barack Obama leaves office in January.
Biden said that’s his hope and expectation. The White House has been trying to close the facility since President Obama took office, but has been blocked by bi-partisan opposition in Congress.
61 detainees remain at Guantanamo, but only 20 of them have been approved for transfer. U.S. law signed by President Obama, prohibits the transfer of any detainees to U.S. soil.
