Sprint Cup Series Heads to Watkins Glen
It’s time for road course racing this Sunday at Watkins Glen for this year’s running of the Cheez-it 355 at the Glen and Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits out another week:
FOX’s Marghiee Teshineh has “FOX in the Fast Lane”:
The Sprint Cup goes to Watkins Glen, the second road course on the schedule and A.J. Allmendinger, who won at the Glen two years ago, says you have to change how you drive at the Glen because unlike traditional oval tracks:
(Allmendinger) “Road course racing, it lends itself for a lot of opportunities at passing, for mistakes, for strategy and that’s what makes this race so crazy.”
Rookie Cup driver Chris Buescher, who just got his first career Cup win at Pocono, heads to Watkins Glen this weekend looking for back to back victories. He says he’s not surprised the team finally won a race because:
(Buescher) “We’ve been trying to be able to put ourselves in position to win a race to get back in the hunt.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr., still suffering from the effects of a concussion, will be out for the next two races, this weekend at Watkins Glen and Bristol, so Jeff Gordon will continue as his substitute driver. Gordon who turns 45-years-old this week will be making his 800th career start at the Glen this weekend.
