National Governors Association Meeting

Trade is expected to be a big topic for today’s meeting of the Nation’s governors.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has the story:

About half of the Country’s governors are gathering in Des Moines, Iowa for the summer meeting of the National Governors Association. On the agenda? International trade and the opioid crisis.

A bipartisan group of governors is expected to join with a U.S. trade representative to call for the passage of the Trans Pacific Partnership, and they say it would increase exports and create jobs.

Governors will also hear from experts on the rising number of overdose deaths by prescription pain reliever addictions, as well as heroin. They pledged to fight the problem earlier this week.
