Drones Smuggle Contraband into Prisons
A new way to smuggle stuff into prisons.
FOX’s John Saucier reports:
It’s already been attempted by prisoners in a few states, flying contraband into the prison yard using drones, including drugs, pornography, hacksaw blades, even cellphones.
It happened in Ohio, Maryland, and Oklahoma. Now lawmakers in several other states are trying to stop this problem.
Some states are drafting laws which would impose steep fines on lawbreakers. Others are skipping legislation, instead increasing camera surveillance.
Prison officials in Ohio are considering signal-breaking technology that would render drones inoperable, but that could also cut into cellphone activity in the area.
One thing that’s been ruled out though, shooting the drones down with a gun.
