Philanthropist David Rubenstein Donates $18-Million to Renovate Washington’s Lincoln Memorial

Washington’s Lincoln Memorial is going to get a makeover, thanks to a generous donation from a wealthy history buff.

FOX’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

Philanthropist David Rubenstein is giving $18-million to help spruce up the iconic landmark on the National Mall.

The National Park Service says the money will be used to fix the Lincoln Memorial’s roof and clean its marble. The Park Service also plans to build 15,000 square feet of visitor space beneath the memorial.

Rubenstein, a billionaire who founded The Carlyle Group investment firm, gave more than $7-million to repair the Washington Monument after a 2011 earthquake.
