Texas Man Gets Life in Prison for Drunk Driving

A Texas man gets life in prison for driving drunk.

    FOX’s Gary Baumgarten reports:

A Weatherford, Texas man will spend the rest of his life in prison. Sent there by a judge for drunk driving.

Some may think that a harsh penalty, but this was 62-year-old Ivy Ray Eberhardt’s tenth drunk driving conviction:

(Swain) “When you get to where you’ve had 10 DWI’s it is outrageous. It’s at the point where you really don’t give the judge or the jury any kind of option. They need to put you away where the rest of us can be protected because you’re not going to change.”

Assistant Parker County Texas D.A. Jeff Swain says Eberhardt’s blood alcohol was .30, almost four times the legal limit.

Parker would be eligible for parole in 15 years.
