NYC Reaches Settlement In Eric Garner Death

A settlement reached in the death of Eric Garner.

FOX News Radio’s Jane Metzler has the details:

Nearly a year after his death, New York City settling a lawsuit with the family of Eric Garner for $5.9 million. The family had sued for $75 million.

The 43-year-old, who suffered from asthma, was put in an apparent chokehold by a city police officer as he was being arrested for selling loose cigarettes on a Staten Island street. Garner’s last words, which a bystander captured on a cell phone camera… “I can’t breathe”.

The city does not admit liability in the settlement, but acknowledges Garner’s death was tragic and had an extraordinary impact on New York City and the nation.
