U.S. soccer player Carli Lloyd still getting a grasp on what happened in Vancouver in the Women’s World Cup final.
(Lloyd) “I’m so mentally fried. Just an unbelievable team performance.”
Lloyd scored three goals in America’s 5-to-2 victory over Japan.
There wasn’t much doubt after the U.S. scored two goals in the first five minutes.
(Ellis) ”That’s been one of our mantras — start fast, finish strong. And I mean, they came out of the gate.”
Coach Jill Ellis.
The victory avenged a loss to Japan in the final four years ago. It was the third time the U.S. has won the Women’s World Cup, but the first time in 16 years.
