Pres Obama Nominates Former Procter & Gamble CEO As Head of Veterans Affairs
In an announcement on Monday at the Department of Veterans Affairs, President Obama nominated Robert McDonald, who led Procter & Gamble to take the reins at the beleaguered Veterans Affairs Department. The President described McDonald as ‘no nonsense’ — a West Point graduate, retiring an Army Captain before a three-decade career at P&G.
Several investigations, including a White House report last week, describe chronic systemic failures the VA, accusations, patients wait times and clinic cover-ups have led to deaths. House Speaker John Boehner calling the McDonald ‘a good man, capable of implementing the kind of dramatic change badly needed at the VA’.
