U.S. Patent Office Cancels Redskins Trademarks [VIDEO]
The Washington Redskins can keep their name, but the team could lose a lot of money under a decision about their trademarks.
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern has more from the Capitol:
Six of the trademarks owned by the Washington Redskins should be canceled… that ruling from a review board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
A 2-1 decision coming after a challenge from a group of Native American Tribes finds the name disparaging.
(Reid) “A tradition of racism is all that name leaves in its wake.”
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has spent months demanding a name change.
Canceling the trademarks could mean the team loses the ability to go after counterfeiters. A Redskins attorney says the team will appeal, noting a similar ruling back in 1999 was later overturned.
