Washington State Suspends Use Of The Death Penalty
After months of reviews, the Democratic Governor of Washington state, Jay Inslee, declared a moratorium on the death penalty.
FOX News Radio’s Jennifer Keiper reports:
The Governor of Washington says the death penalty in his state is applied inconsistently and unequally and there needs to be a discussion about it. Inslee’s moratorium means a reprieve for those currently on death row. There are nine people in Washington there right now. However, the Governor stresses that it does not commute the sentences or mean a pardon. He says that prisoners get no mercy from him. Former Illinois Governor, George Ryan, a Republican did this years ago on concerns that there were flaws in the system. Current Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, a Democrat, abolished the death penalty 11 years later.
