What does a job interview have in common with a date? Turns out… a lot!

FOX Business Network’s Cheryl Casone reports in this edition of “Hired!”:

Getting you Hired! A special Valentine’s Day edition. I’m Cheryl Casone with the FOX Business Network.

In many ways, a job interview is like a first date.

So before the date, you might create a checklist of the traits you’re looking for in a love interest. Same with a job. Make a list of traits you want in your new job… Like benefits, work-life balance and job responsibilities.

Lots of people do a Google or Facebook check of a dating prospect. It’s the same if you’re a job-seeker. Research that company, check their social media, go to LinkedIn to find out how long employees have been with that company.

Just like a date, first impressions are critical at the interview. Look like you’re interested, ask smart questions.

Then comes “the waiting game!”… Did they like me? You sit by the phone or computer waiting to hear something. You have to figure out when to follow-up to show you’re interested, but not desperate.

And just like dating, there’s a risk of rejection. That hurts. But when you find the “one”… It’s a great feeling whether it’s a relationship or a job… enjoy it!
