Tribe Pushing For Name Change of NFL ‘Redskins’

Redskins Name Football

An Indian tribe is again trying to get the NFL to change the Washington Redskins team name.

FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:

The Oneida Indian Nation will take its fight to the NFL’s own turf holding a public meeting next Monday at the same Washington hotel where the NFL owners will hold their fall meeting the day after. The upstate New York tribe has already launched radio ads in DC pressing for a change:

(Ad) “We do not deserve to be called Redskins, we deserve to be treated as what we are… Americans.”

Earlier this year NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the nickname team owner Daniel Snyder vows to never change. Goodell says ‘Redskins’ is popular with fans and symbolizes strength, courage, pride and respect. Oneida Tribal leader Ray Halbritter has different words:

(Halbritter) “Wrong, insensitive and unacceptable.”
