Housecall for Health: Male Menopause

Housecall

A particular hormone may play a role in “male menopause” symptoms.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in this edition of “Housecall for Health”:

Scientists have found a major culprit behind male menopause, and it’s not what you think. A new federally funded study suggests low estrogen has major effects on libido, strength, and energy in men. Testosterone is the main male sex hormone, but men’s bodies convert some into estrogen, and both decline with age. It’s unlikely doctors will start prescribing estrogen to men, but researchers say the data will help with future studies on male aging.
