Popular Antibiotic Warning
They’re supposed to help you get healthy, but they can prove deadly: There’s a new heart warning from the FDA for the popular “Z-Pak” antibiotics.
FOX News Radio’s Bill Vitka reports:
When the problem is bronchitis, pneumonia or an ear infection, the remedy is a common antibiotic: Z-Pak or Zithromax. Now there’s a warning that Z-Pak can trigger abnormal changes in the heart’s electrical activity. It may lead to a fatal heart rhythm.
Not everybody is at risk, and while more research is needed, patients with a heart condition probably should stay clear of Z-Pak. The drug’s label is being updated to reflect the increased risk of an irregular, fatal heartbeat.
