IN Senate Candidate: My Rape Remarks Were “Twisted”
What one candidate said in a debate on Tuesday night about abortion, God and rape has sparked a firestorm in an Indiana Senate race. Wednesday, both candidates followed up with press conferences to get their message out.
FOX News Radio’s Jennifer Keiper has what they’re saying:
GOP Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock says when a woman becomes pregnant during a rape, “that’s something God intended.” Democratic challenger Joe Donnelly:
(Donnelly) “I just think that’s hurtful and insulting to women, to rape survivors and to the families.”
But Mourdock says:
(Mourdock) “So many people mistook, twisted, came to misunderstand the points that I was trying to make.”
Which Mourdock claims was that God creates life, not that he wants people to get raped. The DNC calls Mourdock a Tea Party “zealot.” The Romney campaign says the GOP Presidential candidate disagrees with the remark, but still supports Mourdock’s bid.
