Nearly 14,000 Exposed to Meningitis Outbreak

The full scope of the deadly meningitis outbreak is only just beginning to come into focus, and it could take months before it’s known just how many will end up sick.

FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal has the reason why:

That’s because Dr. Todd Weber at the CDC says symptoms of this fungal meningitis typically show within one-to-four weeks.

(Dr. Weber) “However, fungal infections can be slow to develop.  There are indeed reports of longer periods of time between injections and onset of symptoms, so patients and their doctors will need to be vigilant for at least several months following the injections.”

There’s a voluntary recall of all medications from the New England Compounding Center.  Of nearly 14,000 people exposed, 170 have been sickened and 14 people have died.
