Report: Beware of Dietary Supplements’ False Claims

Not all dietary supplements do what they claim, according to a new report.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Knight reports:

The Inspector General’s office investigated 127 weight loss and immune-boosting supplements.

(Commercial) “All natural, herbal dietary supplement, backed by research…”

It found that the labels on 20% of them made illegal claims. Some even claimed to be able to cure or prevent diabetes, cancer, even HIV or AIDS.

The report warns that people who rely on a supplement’s false claims could be risking their health if they’re convinced to stop taking their doctor’s prescribed medications.

The report recommends that the FDA increase its oversight of dietary supplements.
