Survey: Teens Know Danger, Still Text While Driving

A new study on texting while driving has found that young drivers know the dangers of having their phone out behind the wheel, but choose to ignore the danger.

FOX News Radio’s Lisa Brady has details:

In a survey of 16- to 21-year-olds, nearly 80% say texting while driving is dangerous, but nearly a third say they do it anyway.

(Barth) “As you know, a new teen driver – or even a teen not driving – their phone is constantly going off, and it’s very hard to stop that and to ignore that at the moment.”

Associate Web Editor Liz Barth with Consumer Reports says many young drivers are just following their peers – or their parents’ – lead.

(Barth) “Parents teach them how to drive, and it’s one of those things that parents say, ‘Don’t do as I’m doing,’ but it’s sending the wrong message.”

She urges passengers to speak up – nearly one quarter who curbed talking and texting while driving credit pressure from friends and family.
