Tracy’s Tax Tips #2: Finding A “Tax Guy”
Not doing your own taxes? Well, you better get moving…
I’m Tracy Byrnes with the FOX Business Network, here with another of Tracy’s Tax Tips:
Now, if you have no interest in preparing you 2011 tax return, then get help NOW. Go find a reliable preparer quickly, before he or she gets too busy to deal with you. April 17th – remember you have a few extra days this year – shows up fast and you can’t knock on a tax accountant’s door the Friday before and expect to have your return prepared on time.
First, try to get a recommendation from a friend. You can also contact your state CPA, legal or Enrolled Agent organizations. They usually maintain databases of local accountants and other tax preparers and will help you find someone. Then, interview potential candidates – ask for credentials and previous experience. Make sure you’re comfortable with the person because you’re about to divulge some personal stuff to him or her. And finally, ask about the cost – you don’t want any surprises in the end.
