AZ Mom Passes Cancer on to Baby in Womb

Doctors are trying to save a baby girl in Arizona that they say inherited cancer from her mother, something that happens only rarely.

FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal has details from Phoenix:

Addison Cox was born with Stage 4 Melanoma.  The 9-month-old lives with her father here in Phoenix, and he says his daughter has cancer in her brain, lungs, kidney, shoulder, liver, leg and tongue.  

Addison’s mom had cancer, too.  She thought she had it kicked five years ago, and that her recent symptoms were because she was pregnant.  But the cancer came back and she died earlier this month.

Now, doctors say treating Addison is very difficult, that it’s only the ninth documented case of a mother passing cancer to her child.
