AL Man Battles Charges in Honeymoon Death…Again.

An Alabama man who has already served time in jail abroad for the death of his wife is set to defend himself all over again, this time at home.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Rappoport has the story:

Gabe Watson and his wife, Tina, were SCUBA diving on their Australian honeymoon in 2003 when she went under and never resurfaced.  Watson served 18 months in Australia after pleading guilty to manslaughter for not doing enough to help his wife, but goes on trial in Alabama tomorrow for capital murder.

Authorities say the 34-year-old turned off his bride’s air supply and bear hugged her as she drowned in a plot to collect insurance money.  The Defense claims Tina’s death was accidental.

NOTE: Capital murder is punishable by death in Alabama, but prosecutors took the death penalty off the table to ensure Watson’s return to the U.S.
