UPDATED: NYC Mosque Firebombed, Man Confesses
UPDATE: Police have announced that the suspect, Ray Lazier Lengend, has been charged with one count of arson as a hate crime, four counts of arson and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Five New York City buildings have been targeted with firebombs, including a mosque and a Hindu worship site, some caught on surveillance video. Now, police say their suspect has confessed.
FOX News Radio’s Kirstin McNary has more on his motive:
It came down to personal problems. Police say a man has confessed to throwing Molotov Cocktails at an Islamic cultural center, a Hindu worship site and three other New York-area locations, saying he had problems with the people there.
Witnesses at a convenience store that was later hit by one of the crude bombs say the man threatened retaliation as he was kicked out for allegedly stealing. Police aren’t identifying the suspect, but say he’s facing arson-related charges. No one was hurt in the attacks.
