NY Police: Body Found Likely Woman Who Sparked Serial Killer Search
Remains found along a Long Island beach are believed to be those of a woman whose disappearance sparked the search for a serial killer.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig reports from New York City:
The skeletal remains were found in dense vegetation. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer believes they are those of missing NJ prostitute Shannan Gilbert.
(Dormer) “The Medical Examiner will be taking care of the process, along with the forensic people.”
Gilbert’s disappearance a year ago led to the discovery of ten bodies, many of them escorts working off the website Craigslist, along coastal Ocean Parkway. Police believe those are the work of a serial killer, but also believe Gilbert’s death was accidental.
(Dormer) “It appears that she was heading towards the Parkway, and so that would lend to our theory that she was trying to get out of the area.”
Some of Gilbert’s belongings were found about 1/4-mile away.
