Housecall for Health: Dangerous Marathons
Running a marathon is healthy, right? Maybe not.
FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
Marathon runners have long been considered very fit and healthy, but new research says that marathons can cause permanent heart damage.
A study from the University of Melbourne in Australia tested athletes before they ran a marathon and after, finding that their hearts had changed shape and grown in volume, and suffered lower functioning in the right ventricle. Doctors concluded that the high endurance race could cause arrhythmia and even scarring of the heart.
