Reality TV: Debate Rages Over TV Cameras at the Supreme Court
A decades-old debate is reigniting on Capitol Hill: should the Supreme Court open its arguments to a television audience?
FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington:
Arguments in front of Iowa’s Supreme Court are televised, and even webcast regularly.
(Cady) “Our courts are an honest thing, and cameras help show it to the public.”
…Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady. But critics argue legislation requiring cameras in the U.S. Supreme Court is the wrong approach.
(Goldstein) “The justices deserve praise. They’re practically the only people in Washington trying not to get on television. They’re just trying to do their jobs.”
But attorney Thomas Goldstein predicts if the upcoming health care law arguments were televised, 50 million people would watch.
