Housecall for Health: Skin Cancer at the Hair Salon

The first signs of skin cancer could soon be detected by an unlikely source…your hair stylist.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon explains in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

Next time you get a haircut, you could walk out with a referral to a dermatologist.

A survey of salons in Texas found that more than a third of hairdressers aren’t just doing a wash & style, they are checking their clients for suspicious moles on the scalp and referring them to a doctor for testing.  Half of stylists even expressed wanting to learn more about skin cancer to better help in screening for the disease.

The data was published in the Archives of Dermatology.
