Facebook is hot on the heels of another online powerhouse, announcing a video chat function for the site through Skype - just a week after Google launched Google+, a social networking site also offering video calling.

"The integration that we did together could not be done without the social infrastructure that has been building up over the last five years.  I just think we are going to see a lot more things like this over the next few months and years."

Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg also announced new features for the group chat and buddy list.  Engineers say they are working to make the video chat compatible for the mobile phone apps.
