Wildfires and Extreme Heat Burning Through Southwest
Californians are finding little relief from the severe heat hitting their state.
FOX’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:
Just as fire crews start to get the upper hand on some of the wildfires that have been burning, they’re facing the hottest day of a heat wave in the Southwest. Crews in Santa Barbara have a fire over 50% contained. Fires are still burning in New Mexico and Arizona.
It’s been over 120 degrees in parts of Arizona. Which is where four people died over the weekend due to heat related injuries after hiking. In California you can’t even get relief at the beach where it’s been around 90 degrees in Santa Monica:
(Resident) ”It seems like every year it gets worse and worse and more hot and more hot.”
According to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016 is on track to be the hottest year on record.
