Facebook Makes a Change to Its Trending Topics

Facebook says it’s changed the way trending topics are being handled after it was accused of suppressing conservative news.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has the story:

Facebook is introducing several changes in the way its trending topics are selected, even though it claims an internal investigation showed no evidence of political bias in that feature.

It comes after accusations earlier this month by a former Facebook contractor, who said the company’s editors deliberately suppressed conservative news.

The “trending topics” portion is separate from the main “news feed” where most Facebook users get their news.

One of the changes it is making includes getting rid of a top-ten list of approved websites, more training and clearer guidelines to help human editors avoid ideological or political bias.

It’s also beefing up review procedures.
