Johns Hopkins Research Shows Medical Mistakes are a Silent Killer
New research shows medical mistakes are a silent killer.
FOX’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:
Doctor error is not listed on death certificates, but researchers from Johns Hopkins say that’s what kills 250,000 people a year, making medical mistakes the third leading cause of death in the United States, right after heart disease and cancer.
Mishaps include misdiagnosis, drug errors, unnecessary surgery as well as poor patient coordination. The doctors who conducted the research says patient deaths due to mistakes is an unrecognized epidemic and that they hope their data will help reform the U.S. medical system.
