California and New York Could Become Highest-Paid Minimum Wage States in Country

Two states could become the highest-paid minimum wage states in the country after governors for both reached deals with lawmakers.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has details:

The New York state senate is debating part of the budget that deals with raising the minimum wage in the state to $15 an hour.

Governor Andrew Cuomo reached a tentative deal with lawmakers late Thursday. California governor Jerry Brown says he’ll sign the $15 an hour wage bill on Monday.

But not everyone in California is on board, the California chamber of commerce president says the state’s acting too fast, concerned it will hurt businesses.

California’s current $10 an hour minimum wage is tied with Massachusetts for the highest among states.

Only Washington, D.C. is higher at $10.50 an hour. New York’s minimum wage is $9 an hour.
