California Minimum Wage Deal Reached, Goes up to $15
A landmark deal reached to raise California’s minimum wage, but the debate is far from over.
FOX’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:
Two union sponsored ballot initiatives were going to ask voters in November to increase minimum wage, but lawmakers and the governor said there’s no need for that now, they reached a deal over the weekend to do it through the legislative process instead.
The wage will go up to $15 on a slower timeline than the ballot initiatives would’ve done. It won’t hit $15 an hour until 2022.
(Female) “It’s necessary for people to live, to eat, to be comfortable.”
(Male) “I feel bad for people working hard, but small business are going to be hurt.”
Business groups aren’t happy, they say this is an overreach that bows to the special interests and not the constituents.
