Supreme Court Upholds Employee Class Action Suit Against Tyson Foods
There’s been a high court ruling in a closely watched class-action case against one of the world’s largest meat processors.
FOX’s Lilian Woo reports:
The Supreme Court ruling for more than 3,000 workers at a Tyson Foods pork processing plant in Iowa, ruling 6-2 to reject new limits on class action lawsuits, also upholding a $5.8 million judgement against the company for violating labor laws.
They didn’t pay employees for time spent putting on and taking off protective work clothes and equipment.
Tyson argued plaintiffs presented insufficient evidence to prove damages class-wide. The ruling, a blow to businesses hoping the high court would rein in the use of calculations based on statistical evidence.
