Atlantic City’s Facing a Three-Week Government Shutdown
Some major money problems for one of America’s gambling hot spots.

The mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey, saying the resort town’s finances are bad enough to force a weekslong shutdown of nonessential government services next month if the city doesn’t get any state aid.
Republican Mayor Don Guardian saying that shutdown would start April 8 likely lasting until at least May 2.
When quarterly tax revenue is set to arrive. Police, fire and sanitation workers would still work without pay, but would be paid when that tax money comes in.
Atlantic City’s tax base suffering since four of its 12 casinos closed. State lawmakers now debating a financial takeover plan.
