Dr. John King Named Secretary of Education
A new education secretary has been confirmed by the Senate.
FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from the Capitol:
Dr. John King has been the acting Secretary of Education since December and with a 49-40 vote in the Senate, now has the job officially.
Many Republicans opposed the nomination, arguing King is a supporter of federal Common Core requirements.
Supporters say King’s confirmation was needed to ensure the secretary oversees the bipartisan education reform bill signed into law last last year. A measure that largely replacing the No Child Left Behnd Act and limits the federal government’s role in public education.
