Senate Committee Continues to Discuss Supreme Court Justice Vacancy
The Senate committee tasked with vetting a Supreme Court nominees is together for the first time since the Court’s vacancy, but still divided on how soon to vote for a successor.
FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:
A short list of potential Supreme Court nominees names a federal judge from Iowa, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley’s home-state, still, he says it should be crystal clear:
(Grassley) “We’re not going to drop any nominee into an election year cauldron.”
Democrats complain leaving a Supreme Court seat vacant for more than a year is unprecedented and irresponsible, ranking Democrat Patrick Leahy:
(Leahy) “I hope we take a deep breath and take things one step at a time.”
Other committee Democrats adding any nominee should at least get a hearing and vote, even if that vote is no.
