Woman Who Received Nation’s First Uterus Transplant Continues to Recover

The woman who received the nation’s first uterus transplant last month is recovering well, according to her surgeons.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has the story:

She’s identified only as “Lindsey”, but the 26-year-old is doing well after undergoing a successful uterus transplant in February.

She spoke to reporters, accompanied by surgeons at the Cleveland clinic, where the surgery was done.

Lindsey, who is already a mother to three boys adopted through foster care, says she prayed for years to be able to bear a child, and is grateful to the donor and surgeons who gave her the chance.

She was told at age 16, she would never have children and still must wait a year to ensure the new uterus is healthy enough to try, using in vitro fertilization.

The hospital has screened more than 250 women to identify 10 who qualify for the clinical trial.
