Tennis Broadcaster Bud Collins, Dead at 86

A legend in the world of tennis has died.

    FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

Bud Collins earned his spot in the Tennis Hall of Fame with his pen and personality, not a raquet.

Colorful with his words and his attire, larger-than-life, passionate, and a fountain of tennis knowledge. The legendary journalist died Friday morning at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts:

(Collins) Tennis has been a passion of mine for a long time, but purely by accident did I become a tennis employed person I guess you might say.”

In that Boston University video, Collins tells of how his Boston Herald editors sent him to cover the sport because nobody else would, not knowing his passion for tennis, that turned into a more than half-century career in the press box, which now bears his name at Flushing Meadows, home of the U.S.Open.

    Bud Collins was 86.
