CDC Discusses Patients Falling Ill to Superbugs

Medical professionals in the U.S. are doing a better job at preventing infections to hospitalized patients, but there are still a great number of patients falling ill to so-called ‘superbugs’.

FOX’s Eben Brown reports:

The Centers for Disease Control say hospital-related infections are down, but that as many as 25% of such cases are infections by bacteria impervious to medical treatment:

(Dr. Frieden) “Antibiotic resistance threatens to return us to a time when a simple infection could kill.”

Doctor Tom Frieden, the CDC director, says doctors and nurses need to practice better infection control, especially when using catheters and performing surgeries, and:

(Dr. Frieden) “Improving antibiotic use through antibiotic stewardship.”

And not over-prescribing for minor infections.
