Navy SEAL Receives Medal of Honor

The national highest military honor awarded to a Navy SEAL who helped rescue a U.S. hostage.

FOX’s Jon Decker at the White House has the story:

Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Edward Byers, a member of SEAL Team Six, received the Medal of Honor for rescuing an American aid worker in Afghanistan who was kidnapped by the Taliban in 2012.

(President Obama) “Like so many special operators, Ed is defined by a deep sense of humility. He doesn’t seek the spotlight, in fact, he shuns it.”

His heroic actions, which involved shielding the hostage and taking out two Taliban fighters, took place during a firefight in a house used to detain the American hostage.

Byers is the first living SEAL to receive the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War.
