Teen Basketball Player Impaled by Giant Splinter
Scary moments at a high school basketball tournament in Wisconsin.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:
A 14-year-old player from Wisconsin Heights High was running down the court when she fell, slid across the floor and did not get up:
(Hibner) “The official said, well what do you mean are you hurt, and she’s like there’s a piece of wood stuck to me.”
Tournament organizer Perry Hibner says the girl was impaled by one of the court’s floorboards:
(Hibner) “It was three to four inches long, in some parts of it probably between a quarter and a half-inch deep.”
She was rushed to a hospital, where she spent the night, but avoided serious injury:
(Hibner) “Kind of like a strike of lightening, where you just don’t think those things are going to happen, I mean it was a complete fluke.”
The floor has now been repaired.
