Driverless Cars Continue to be in Testing Phase

If we all ride around in automated cars someday, who will be considered legally as the driver? That’s just been answered.

    FOX’s Dave Anthony reports:

The government agrees with Google: Computers that control futuristic autonomous cars will be considered the driver.

This National Highway Traffic Safety Administration decision helps Google try to manufacture vehicles without steering wheels or pedals, but the company will still have to apply for exemptions to safety regulations, including requirements a car have foot or hand brakes.

Some safety advocates fear the agency could be getting too lax on Google on regulations, some states have their own restrictions too. Driverless cars are still in a testing phase.

Automakers hope they could be on roads in limited use by 2020. Google hopes sooner than that.
