President Obama Signs Every Student Succeeds Act Into Law

President Barack Obama has signed into law a major education law setting U.S. public schools on a new course of accountability.

FOX News’ Jon Decker reports:

A day after the Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation that resets Washington’s relationship with the nation’s 100,000 public schools, the President signed the Every Student Succeeds Act into law…

(President Obama) “It creates real partnerships between the states, which will have new flexibility to tailor their improvement plans and the federal government, which will have the oversight to make sure the plans are sound.”

Under the new law, which replaces the No Child Left Behind Act, states will create their own accountability systems as well as their own teacher evaluation systems.

States will also decide for themselves how to fix failing schools.
