Certain Species of a Tapeworm Linked to Cancer

Medical researches have linked a certain type of cancer cell in humans to a species of tapeworm. The findings suggest that forms of cancer might be caused by the parasite.

    FOX News’ Eben Brown reports:

The CDC says a Colombian man who they were helping to diagnose the cause of lung and lymph node tumors back in 2013 may have been made sick originally by the world’s most common species of tapeworm.

The researchers were able to test samples of these tumors only to find they contained DNA that was other than human and eventually matched it to the ‘dwarf tapeworm.’

They believe this is a rare occurrence, and would only happen to someone who is already immuno-compromised, but that more undocumented cases could be out there.
