Foodborne Illnesses Spreading Across the United States

Federal health officials say foodborne disease continues to major issue for public health, citing a number of outbreaks this year alone.

FOX News’ Eben Brown has more:

Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria continue to be found as root causes of foodborne illnesses spreading throughout states…

(Frieden) “Every year, about one in six Americans get sick from eating contaminating food.”

Dr. Tom Frieden, Director for the Centers for Disease Control… Those three bacteria cause two multi-state outbreaks each month, and antibiotics are starting to not work on infected patients…

(Frieden) “Which increase the risk of hospitalization, blood stream infection or an untreatable infection.”

And that the food is likely contaminated before it reaches restaurants or groceries.
