9/11 First Responders Call for Health Benefits Extension
First responders who answered the call in New York City on September 11, 2001 are calling for an extension on their federal health benefits.
As FOX News’ Tonya J. Powers reports, some say the temporary fix proposed by Congress isn’t enough:
Congress is proposing a five-year extension of the Zadroga Act, which provides health coverage for those who got sick working at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terror attacks.
The extension would also slash funding by up to 60%… Retired New York City firefighter Ray Pfeifer says they’re tired of playing politics…
(Pfeifer) “Our cancers are not going away in five years. Our diseases aren’t going away in five years. Why do we have to come back and beg again in another five years when we have the funding, when we have a bipartisan bill right now?”
An estimated 33,000 9/11 first responders still struggle with illnesses and injuries.
