Ex-House Speaker Dennis Hastert Pleads Guilty in Hush-Money Case
A plea deal has been reached in the hush-money case of Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
FOX News Radio’s Tonya J. Powers has the story:
Dennis Hastert’s plea will keep whatever he wanted quiet… quiet. The silence comes at a price. The plea deal recommends he serve no more than six months in prison, but keeps him from going to trial.
But the judge could still go beyond that recommendation and give Hastert up to five years behind bars. Today’s hearing gave up no new details on why he agreed to pay $3.5-million to an unidentified person, allegedly to hide past misconduct.
The Associated Press, citing anonymous sources, has reported the payments were meant to hide claims of sexual misconduct from decades ago. Sentencing is set for February 29th.
